Environmental and Historic Preservation Review Information

The Environmental and Historic Program of the Division of Disaster Recovery and Mitigation ensures that all funded projects meet federal compliance. The federal government requires all construction work done in Hurricane Ida recovery programs and Superstorm Sandy recovery programs that are funded with Community Development Block Grant Disaster Recovery (CDBG-DR) dollars be reviewed in a tiered environmental assessment to ensure projects undertaken will have no significant impact on the environment. Therefore, no construction work can begin on projects until all levels of environmental review have been complete and found to be in compliance. Public notices about the environmental review records for recovery projects are published in English and Spanish on this webpage.

Any individual, group, or agency disagreeing with a project’s environmental review determination or wishing to comment on the project may submit written comments within a set public comment period to:

Proposed Action under the Resilient Communities Program

Notice of Intent to Request Release of Funds, Notice of Finding of No Significant Impact, and Final Notice and Public Explanation of a Proposed Activity in a Floodplain 

Project Description: Collect, filter, and manage stormwater runoff prior to discharge to the Arthur Kill, reducing flood risk along Bergen Street, improving water quality, and resulting in beneficial floodplain impacts through the conversion of previously developed land to a vegetated bioretention system.    

Location: 40 Bergen Street in Carteret, Middlesex County

Acciones propuestas en el marco del Programa Resilient Communities 

Aviso de intención de solicitar liberación de fondos y aviso de no impacto significativo y aviso final y explicación pública sobre actividad propuesta en llanura de inundación 

Descripción del Proyecto: Captar, filtrar y gestionar la escorrentía pluvial antes de su descarga en el Arthur Kill, reduciendo el riesgo de inundación a lo largo de Bergen Street, mejorando la calidad del agua y generando impactos beneficiosos en la llanura de inundación mediante la conversión de un terreno previamente urbanizado en un sistema de biorretención con vegetación.
