Family and Consumer Sciences

Note: Requirements, passing test scores, and fees are subject to change without notice. All credits must appear on an accredited two- or four-year college or university transcript.
This endorsement authorizes the holder to teach the following in all public schools:
- Exploration in family and consumer sciences related occupations
- Family economics and resource management
- Family relations and human development, including childcare and development, and parenting education
- Housing and environment, including interior design
- Nutrition, health, and food management and preparation
- Textiles and apparel design, construction, and merchandising
Subject Matter Preparation
Credit Requirements
A minimum of 30 semester-hour credits in a coherent sequence in the subject field of family and consumer sciences. At least 12 of the 30 semester-hour credits must be at the advanced level of study (junior, senior, or graduate level).
The 30 semester-hour credits must include study in the following areas:
- Child and family development, care/human development, and related careers
- Food preparation, nutrition and food science, and related careers
- Apparel/construction, textiles, interiors/housing and environments, and related careers
- Personal and family financial/resource management, and related careers

- Textiles
The final determination as to which courses will be counted towards the subject matter is based on content standards found in the ³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ Student Learning Standards.
Courses in pedagogy or education are not acceptable.
