Acute flaccid myelitis (AFM) is an illness of the nervous system, specifically the spinal cord, which can cause the muscles to become weak. Most patients will have sudden onset of weakness of the arms and legs and loss of muscle tone and reflexes. Some people will also have drooping of the face and/or eyelids, difficulty speaking or moving the eyes. There is no specific treatment for AFM or specific action to take to prevent AFM.

At this time, there is no identified connection between any of the ³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ cases, or any known connections between the cases in ³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ and those identified in other states.
